I would love to pace somebody some day and watch them experience their first race. This one was an extra special read because the Chicago marathon was my first as well - but it was a totally different experience. I fell apart, didn't see anyone I knew along the course because it was a destination race for me and none of my friends were there. I crossed the finish line almost an hour slower than I had been hoping for, sat alone in the family area and then eventually walked back to my hotel alone and had to convince the hotel staff to let me into my room because I didn't have anything on me. My mom and sister flew to Chicago for me, but we didn't end up finding each other until hours after the race when the finally came to find me at the hotel. For years, I wanted to erase it from history / my memory and felt like I had been cheated out of my first. A part of me wishes I could go back and re-experience it with a strong and caring friend like you are to Britt. This had got em thinking that maybe some day I can help make someone else's debut marathon a really positive experience, too, to make up for it. :)

Congratulations to you both! It sounds like you each took something really special away from the experience. ...Oh, here I am crying on my computer reading this.

You were the perfect person to run my first marathon with me! I'm laughing at the mental readiness part because if anything, I feel like that's the part that was weakest. How the heck do you not get bored after 3 and a half hours (okay, I mean -- you don't RUN for 3.5 hours anymore so moot point!) but still!

I'm laughing because basically everything you said is exactly what I remember about the experience, good and bad times during the race. And our finish picture is absolutely amazing. <3Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422411720783541847.post-23680953511815592952015-10-22T19:03:49.948-04:002015-10-22T19:03:49.948-04:00I love that you got to run a friend through her fi...I love that you got to run a friend through her first.
