Catching up on the 'News'

Happy Friday, even though this was a weird week schedule wise (Holidays), I am still really glad it's time for the weekend. I'm sure that I am not alone on this one.

I'm going to assume you all have been stuck in an igloo like those of us here in Upstate NY- so bundle up please! If you aren't stuck in said igloo, keep your sunny-green-grass pictures to yourself (or have the decency to invite me to wherever you are!)

Just wanted to catch up on a few "New" things around here.

...like....NEW YEARS!...
I hope you all had wonderful holiday and aren't too hungover (If you are...bravo on drinking enough for a 2 day hangover). John and I laid low at his parents house on Seneca lake and played games with everyone all night. I know, we're party animals! We did however jump in 32 degree lake water on New years day, because we're crazy we wanted to.
I know you are all probably sick of this photo as it was on Instagram and Dailymile
Here is proof that there was smiling after!
...what about a NEW GYM...
I totally feel like a "resolutioner" because I joined a new(new to me) gym right around New years. Truth is I was already a member of 2 gyms (and one got bought out) so I decided to get rid of BOTH of them and upgrade to something more. While I am paying more than I ever thought I would for a gym(read: I am the only female member who does not own an article of LuLu clothing), I am 100% certain this was the right move for me. The facilities are great, there are some AMAZING classes and instructors, hours are great, close to home (2 miles), and the other amenities (hot tub, sauna, steam room, pool, etc.) make it all worth it.

...or a NEW MORNINGish PERSON...
I'd like to pat myself on the back for the fact that I have been good about getting up in the morning and doing workouts early a few times a week. I'm still struggling making it a habit, but I am a lot closer than I was a few weeks ago.

...NEW CAR (ok, new car feeling)...
I was really frustrated putting $1100 into my car last weekend. BUT I have to say it drives better than it did when I bought it 18 months ago (bought used), and I no longer have the headache I did for the last few months. (The exhaust was sooo loud it made the car shake, and my shake and my brain shake). I'm still broke mad about the money, but having a quiet, reliable car that gets me around and doesn't make me rely on others is totally worth it.

...NEW TRAINING PLAN...
Boston training starts Monday for me! I know most people have started already, but I needed a few weeks off after CIM to let my body rest. I'm excited about my plan, I spent a LOT of time researching, planning and working on this cycle. Mentally and physically it's time to push myself a little more- and by push I mean...be consistent!

...NEW BLOG *soon*...
Some changes are going to be made around my little corner of the web soon. Nothing crazy, just a little makeover and some TLC. Any suggestions for look, content or anything?

...NEW GOALS...
I decided I wasn't going to do a yearly goals post for 2014. I did allude to some of them in this post--->here. But in all honesty, my goals are pretty basic (mileage)(PR's)(morning workouts) and I will be referring to them often enough in other posts that I don't feel the need to right now. BUT I do have to say I am loving reading everyone's goal posts, it is truly inspiring to see how much we are all GOING (not an IF!) to accomplish this year!

Okay so there's a few new things from me....
What's NEW with you?

Have you ever done a polar bear plunge?

Ideas/Comments/Suggestions regarding blog look/structure?

  1. My coworker was telling me yesterday that she joined this fancy gym with a sauna and spa and everything. Sounds so nice! My gym has the bare minimum, but I love the classes, and the price can't be beat, so it's no sauna for me right now! Can't wait to see what you do with the blog, and kudos to you for listening to your body and not pushing to start training for Boston RIGHT after CIM.

  2. i feel you on expensive gyms...the past few months I was paying for crossfit (80/mo) AND my normal gym (60/mo). finally cancelled my normal gym even though i'm truly going to miss the hot tub and cardio equipment. but my apartment complex luckily has some treadmills and ellipticals that will make due..

i have some big NEWS coming in the near future. otherwise just on that work grind ;)

  3. Sounds like a super cool gym and close to home. Its been frigid here where I live but not near the snow that some places are getting. However just noticed we could get 5-8 inches Saturday night.
I have debated on a polar bear plunge theres one local next month and a friend and I have thought about it even though our spouses are like uh NO.... Its to support special olympics.

  4. I got lucky and the local gym (which is amazing!) has a special for "singles 25-30) and it's only $50 a month! I don't go all the time but it's worth the money to have it as an option with unlimited classes (yoga, spin, etc). One of my goals for 2014 is to do more cross training so hopefully I'll be spending more time there.

  5. Good lord you look cold! LOL I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to jump into 32 degree water. I can barely muster up the courage for water twice that temp!

Sounds like the new gym has a lot of great amenities. Maybe if you train consistently you'll be eligible for the Lululemon club. LOL! I don't own any either. Totally feel ya on the budget thing.

Glad the new car is working great! It's always irritating when we have to sink money into something we just bought.

  6. On the one hand its nice to have a free gym through my school but on the other hand I don't like it because its a pretty crappy gym but I can't justify paying to join another one.

I love that you did a polar bear plunge. I have been wanting to do one but the local one is super overpriced. One of these years!

  7. I've never done a polar bear plunge but I would MUCH rather do one here than in NY! At least it wasn't super cold on NYD here. Kudos to you for getting in that water, yikes!

Congrats on joining the new gym. Sometimes you really get what you pay for in a gym, who cares what clothes you're wearing, the numbers on your race times speak for themselves. I miss my old gym that had a sauna, hot tub, nice locker rooms, etc (we moved away- if I lived there I would still be a member).

Can't wait to see the new blog look!

  8. We are iglooing down here as well sadly. I really think that move to the gym was the absolute right move for you. I don't think you will regret doing it and it obviously has everything you want in a gym. Yes expensive but making you happy.

  9. No Lulu??? You are missing out.
I feel your car repair pain, trust me...although I'm kinda surprised you have a car. Figured you just ran everywhere, or at least threw on your Supergirl cape and flew :)

  10. SO many fun and exciting things for you coming up. Yes I think you are crazy for jumping in that water.

  11. I don't think I could jump into that water. Maybe if someone pushed me, ha ha. I just canceled my gym membership since I can use the gym at my work for FREE. Saving money already, lol. Happy New Year!!

  12. So...it's sorta cold here. Well, cold for us Floridians. I invite to come visit whenever you like! (I've totally done this with other bloggers. I'm not a murderer.) Due to this silly 5K swim on the 19th I've been polar plunging but not without a wetsuit. Eff. All. That. I think a new gym is a good idea and I too hate spending money on car stuff. Hate it! Why yes I will comment on everything in this post. Lol! Excited to read about your Boston training! I hear they have some hills there. Happy New Year! Can't wait to see the blog updates.

  13. You've got a lot of new going on over here! Good for you--embracing change can be hard but it all sounds positive here.

Awesome on your plunge! I have actually done a jump in a cold lake in Finland following time in the sauna. I would have liked more time in the sauna first, believe me! And I've done the Polar Bear Plunge here in MD--may do it again this year with the kids. Happy new year!

  14. I can't believe you did a polar plunge! I watched one on New Year's Day. Does that count?! Haha. Only think new with me is New Year's Goals, which I have yet to write down. Gotta do that now...

  15. I can't even fathom the amount of money someone would have to pay me to jump in that lake ... I don't think I would ever be warm ever again. You, my friend, are much more bada$$ than myself.

  16. I can't believe you guys plunged!! NO WAY! I absolutely loathe being cold. This weather that the NE is having is so depressing!

You gym sounds cool! We want to join one, but we're going to wait a month or two, until it calms back down.

    Stay warm!

  17. Your crazy for polar plunging! I can't believe Marathon training starts for you already! At least you got a short break. And as for blog - you should check out switching to Wordpress. I used to use Blogger, then I switched and I like it so much more.
