Final Days of Summer...

I feel like just yesterday I was sitting here writing about my summer goals, and what's next for me. Nope, definitely wasn't yesterday. Now I'm sitting here thinking about how I am going to catch my breath the next few weeks with all I have going on.

It's weird to think, summer really doesn't end until middle of September- but to most, summer ends after Labor day. Despite the fact that I don't have school this fall, summer still feels like it will be ending in a week and a half. Probably because my birthday always signaled end of new year beginning of another in more ways than one.

A Week from today I will be on a plane to see this girl  >>Hollie<<, spend a weekend with her and >>Heather<<. A few days of friends, fun, racing, and the beach- I'm pretty sure there is no better way to spend my "last weekend of summer". Be prepared for the awesomeness that will come out of this epic reunion.

Between now and that plane ride though, is a mess of things that need to get done. Lots of running (this week and next week are some of my peak mileage weeks), lots of cleaning and packing, CPR/AED course, work, studying,  some appointments, and obviously spending some time with my man before leaving for 5 days.

Things are not going to slow down until after the marathon in 44 days (eek!), but there are a lot of great things happening between now and then so I'm not complaining. Although being able to take a nap during the day once in a while would be helpful.

Time to take a peek at my summer goals and see where I stand so far, I know I have accomplished some goals but I also know that my work is not ever....This summer has been a roller coaster in so many ways, but I'd like to think that it's ending on a high note.

How are your summer goals shaping up?

What signals the end of the summer for you?

  1. I agree with you - beginning of September/Labor Day usually makes me think it is the end of summer, too. My biggest fitness goal this summer was to train for a half. I started that goal, got a little bit sidetracked due to injury, but am slowly getting back on the bandwagon. Personally, my biggest goal was to work on letting go of having to control everything. The injury was a big test of that, and I feel like I'm doing pretty well.

I hope you have a great trip girl!

  2. Good luck with training and travelling :). Yeah, life is hectic and it's weird to think about summer ending when you're not in school and don't get summer, but it definitely *feels* different when the kiddos go back, at least to me. My only real summer goal was to train for the marathon and save money, and so far that's happened and I'm glad about that. It looks like your training has gone really well too, I bet you will rock the marathon!

  3. The end of summer is definitely the beginning of school years for me. Even though I am not in school, the start of school buses and seeing kids shop for school supplies means summer is coming to a close. I wish SO badly I could be down in VA beach with you guys in a week! I hope you have a great time :D

  4. It really does feel like we were just sitting there with my dad but that was closing in on 3 months ago? Where is time going...well this wee can seriously go as fast as it needs to because I'm so excited for next weekend. My goal was to stay injury free and train for my marathon...so far so good...knock on wood.

  5. Labor Day definitely signals the end of summer for me. I love the fall though and always wish it stuck around for a little longer. I'm hitting my summer goals it seems although my mileage is a bit lower than where I want it to be. I'm getting more time in on the bike and getting more comfortable so I'm happy about that!

  6. My summer goals definitely were not met because of my stinkin' foot injury. Like you I think Labor Day = end of summer. At least I know the Fall is shaping up to be much better.

  7. I didn't really have any summer goals. I guess I just wanted to make it through marathon training without any injuries.

My daughter starting Kindergarten after Labor Day is the end of summer for me.

  8. I refuse to admit that summer is almost over. Nope. Not going to do it.

I don't admit summer is over until all of the leaves have fallen off of the trees.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  11. My summer goals went better than planned. I personally define summer based on when the public pools are open. But your right, based on the calendar we still have a little more time. Looking forward to hearing more about your time with your gal pals.
